FEBRUARY 2004

One high school in Collier County used I CAN Learn® in its Algebra I classes during the 2002-2003 school year. ICL student scores (n = 97) on the math portion of the Florida achievement test, FCAT, were compared to scores of non-ICL students (n = 700) in the same school after adjusting for differences in FCAT scores from the prior year. The adjustment was made using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to account for any possible achievement differences prior to introduction of ICL. ICL students significantly (p<.05) outscored traditionally-taught students after adjusting for prior year differences (FCAT 2002 scores were used as the covariate and FCAT 2003 scores as the dependent variable.) See Tables 1 and 2.
