Introduction to the Research (continued)

Where possible, comparison studies of students with similar demographics are used in what Cook and Campbell (1979) referred to as "quasi-experimental designs". Also where possible, prior year achievement for the same students is used to adjust for initial differences in order to further ensure that any group differences are the result of the treatment. If comparison groups are not available, groups of students from the same school/district from prior years are used. Evaluators from the University of New Orleans, ed-cet, inc., and several school districts have reported results. One 22-study meta-analysis (submitted initially in December 2003) showed that I CAN Learn® students scored higher than traditionally taught students in 15 of 22 studies and about equal in 3 others. Committed to accurate portrayal of all site progress and continuous improvement of the product and its implementation, I CAN Learn® Education Systems provides the following sample of studies. Any other available studies can be provided upon request.
